One of the highlights of the year in the ‘hood, was making the trek up to the nearby St. Rocco Labor Day Carnival and watching the greasy pole climb. We lined up for some tasty zeppoles and grilled sausage sandwiches.

On more than one occasion, fights broke out on the last night of the carnival while hanging out with the gang from up Milford.  One of the bigger brawls made the news.

Nearby Places
A popular place (for many reasons) was Brookside park.  As young teens we would often walk down Brookside to play pick-up football or softball games and climb on the train.  We'd sometimes explore the sewers running off the creek.  Dirt bikes would try and go up "motorcycle hill."

As we got older, the parking lot down Brookside in the 70s had a lot of partying going on.

The train is gone now, but here's a link about it's history.

Here's a cool video link by Mike Cleo touring Brookside.

Another popular spot near the neighborhood frequented by most of us was Carousel Lanes, which just closed.
